About the organization
SBP is an award-winning, nonprofit rebuilding organization whose mission is to ensure that disaster-impacted citizens and communities recover in a prompt, efficient and predictable manner. Through Disaster Recovery Lab, SBP works to share lessons learned, prevent common barriers to recovery and help communities utilize SBP’s standardized, repeatable and proven-effective model. Since its founding in 2006, in response to Hurricane Katrina, SBP has rebuilt homes for nearly 700 families with the help of over 60,000 volunteers in New Orleans; Joplin, MO; Staten Island, NY; Rockaway, NY; and Sea Bright, NJ.
AmeriCorps members serving with SBP will become a part of the growing national service movement and have the opportunity to develop valuable professional skills with a dynamic organization that is pioneering a new model for disaster recovery.
SBP NJ is seeking passionate leaders from across the country to join in our efforts to return hard-working New Jerseyans displaced by Hurricane Sandy.
Project Leads are the voice and face of SBP out in the field. These members lead groups
of skilled and unskilled volunteers in construction projects on our clients’ homes, engaging with diverse groups of people on a daily basis. A Project Lead is responsible for providing training to our volunteers, maintaining a safe and clean worksite, monitoring safety and quality, and ensuring
that all tasks are completed on schedule. Project Leads are provided a 6-week training in the
on construction tasks so no previous construction experience is required.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized project site.
Ensure that each phase of construction is being completed on schedule and highest quality possible
Communicate daily and weekly goals to volunteers.
Provide effective training and constructive feedback to volunteers who are completing insulation, drywall, mudding, painting, flooring, trim, doors, and other phases of construction.
Maintain a professional and positive attitude when coordinating volunteers and interacting with team members
Successful Team Members at SBP are:

Coachable, curious and eager to learn
Hard workers who are able to be successful with limited supervision
Effective problem solvers or very interested in learning how to become one
Team players who both communicate and work effectively in a diverse group
Comfortable in a startup or entrepreneurial environment weekly with your direct supervisor to discuss each client’s case.
Advocate for the client both to outside organizations and internally within SBP.
Be at least 17 years of age or older.
Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
$1399 per month
