About the organization
Heart of Oregon Corps is a Central Oregon non-profit that works to inspire and empower positive change in the lives of young people through, jobs, education, and stewardship. Founded in 2000 as a work-earn-learn model, HOC is an umbrella organization for 6 distinct and mission-centered programs. The Land Stewardship Trainer will serve with the AmeriCorps program, which is a 21st Century Conservation Corps. We aim to improve at-risk ecosystems by building and maintaining fence; participating in fire fuels reduction projects; building and maintaining trails; eradicating invasive species; and working at the various transfer sites and landfills throughout Central Oregon. We pair these projects with education centered on environmental stewardship and the reasoning behind maintaining our public lands for future generations. Through these efforts, along with other professional development opportunities, we believe our young people will transition into their futures and thrive.
Member Position Summary
Under the direction of the Project Coordinator, the Land Stewardship Trainer position will provide training and support alongside Quarter Time (QT) and Three-Quarter Time (TQT) AmeriCorps Service Members while also completing environmental stewardship service. This includes: developing and implementing in-field training opportunities, environmental education, field logistics support, and project partner satisfaction tracking. This position will have a special emphasis on Natural Resources Career Development and on helping Members learn and practice technical field skills while encouraging a safe service environment.
i. 19 years or older (21 preferred) with a valid driver’s license.
ii. Successfully complete a 3 Part Background Check which includes NSOPW, State Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprint Check to CNCS and HOC policies. Any individual listed on a sex offender registry, convicted of murder, or anyone who refuses to undergo a Criminal History Check is ineligible to serve.
iii. Pass a pre-service drug test.
iv. Must be a United States Citizen, United States National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the U.S. and provide documentation as proof.
v. Provide a Social Security Card to verify SSN.
vi. Regular and reliable attendance and dependability.
vii. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills: ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people, and institutions.
viii. Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness of tasks.
ix. Ability to relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people.
x. Respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults.
xi. Indicate an ability to appropriately represent the Heart of Oregon Corps and AmeriCorps Programs.
m. Required Academic and Experience Qualifications
i. High School Diploma/GED, two-year college or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
ii. Experience with office processes, procedures, and technology efficiently to complete work using various software systems including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
$15,050.00 ($700.00 bi-weekly living allowance)
