Duties

Major areas of responsibility for the AmeriCorps Full-Time Tutor position include:
• Tutor small groups of students at an elementary or middle school with the goal of growing students’ proficiency in ELA and/or math.
• Track student progress through maintaining detailed and accurate records of tutoring sessions. Submit timely progress reports of student data using Hands On Atlanta’s internal software and assist in collecting broader student data sets as needed.
• Support teachers and school administrators by assisting students, co-planning lessons, leading learning activities, and participating in school events.
• Foster meaningful and productive relationships with students, teachers, school officials, and parents.
• Attend Discovery and engage with community volunteers up to 14 Saturdays over the school year. This includes helping with volunteer recruitment and recognition, sign-in, lesson facilitation, and student support.
• Coordinate and support volunteers during national and local days of service, including MLK Day and Hands On Atlanta Day.
• Create and maintain a “service journal” to capture reflections and stories of impact.
• Participate in AmeriCorps trainings and development days, and complete a Leadership/Legacy project at the end of your service term.
• Be an engaged member of the Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps cohort and a service leader at your host school.

• Volunteer/community service experience in schools and/or nonprofits, and with children
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Adaptability and perseverance in the face of obstacles
• Strong interpersonal skills
• High level of professionalism
• Ability to maintain positive and respectful rapport with students, parents, and community members
• Able to seek out and work effectively with others who have diverse perspectives, talents, and backgrounds; contribute to a team climate in which differences are valued and supported
• Effective communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
• Highly organized; ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve goals in a face-paced environment
• Ability to create thoughtful and thorough documentation of interactions with children, parents, and volunteers
• Eagerness to learn, contribute and grow
