About the organization
Hands On Atlanta tackles Greater Atlanta's most pressing needs by igniting a passion for service and creating lifelong community volunteers.
• Tutor small groups of students at an elementary or middle school with the goal of growing students’ proficiency in ELA and/or math.
• Track student progress through maintaining detailed and accurate records of tutoring sessions. Submit timely progress reports of student data using Hands On Atlanta’s internal software and assist collecting broader student data sets as needed.
• Support teachers and school administrators by assisting students, co-planning lessons, leading learning activities, and participating in school events.
• Foster meaningful and productive relationships with students, teachers, school officials, and parents.
• Promote and conduct outreach for Discovery, our Saturday enrichment program, to increase student participation and assist in curriculum development.
• Attend Discovery and engage with community volunteers up to 10 Saturdays over the school year. This includes helping with volunteer recruitment and recognition, sign-in, lesson facilitation, and student support.
• Coordinate and support volunteers during national and local days of service, including MLK Day and Hands On Atlanta Day.
• Create and maintain a “service journal” to capture reflections and stories of impact.
• Participate in AmeriCorps trainings and development days, and complete a Leadership/Legacy project at the end of your service term.
• Be an engaged member of the Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps cohort and a service leader at your host school.
• Able to commit to completing 1700 hours of full-time service over 10 months
• Have a bachelor’s degree or are currently pursuing your bachelor’s
• Able to clear state and federal background checks
•Able to clear a NSOPW check
•Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Nationals or Lawful Permanent Residents of the U.S.
•Valid driver’s license, car, and ability to navigate in and around greater Atlanta
• Volunteer/community service experience in schools and/or nonprofits, and with children
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Adaptability and perseverance in the face of obstacles
• Ability to maintain positive and respectful rapport with students, parents, and community members
• Able to seek out and work effectively with others who have diverse perspectives, talents, and backgrounds; contribute to a team climate in which differences are valued and supported
• Effective communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
• Highly organized; ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve goals in a face-paced environment

Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a phone screen and a subset of candidates screened over the phone will be invited for a group interview. Special accommodations will be made for out of state candidates. The Corporation for National and Community Service requires a separate online application. A select group of final candidates, who have participated in a networking/group interview, will be invited to complete the CNCS application. After completion of this application Finalists will be invited for a final interview with leaders of the Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps team and asked to submit references.
