AmeriCorps College Coach with Dawson Promise

Montana Campus Compact

About the organization

Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across our state. Our work to improve community life and educate students about civic and social responsibility is critically important. Our world requires thoughtful, compassionate, knowledgeable, and engaged leaders. We need a workforce that understands the critical role of individuals in a community. Higher education is an excellent place to teach and learn civic engagement. Through partnerships with AmeriCorps, Reach Higher Montana, the Governor’s Office of Community Service, and other funding partners, MTCC offers a broad spectrum of initiatives, training, scholarships, and awards that encourage and recognize community service and enable service-learning professional development.

In partnership with Dawson Community College, Dawson Promise is a program aimed at helping youth aging out of the foster care system, unaccompanied youth, or homeless youth obtain a two-year education without debt. The AmeriCorps College Coach will work directly with Dawson Promise students, providing them with personal motivational mentoring and academic support through progress reports, faculty follow up, and tutoring. You will aid the Dawson Promise Advisor with organizing Life Skills training sessions for Dawson Promise students; including resume writing, personal finances and budgeting, and scholarship or job applications. You will also work closely with the campus OneHealth Liaison to encourage students to receive free counseling and other medical services available to support mental health. You will also assist the Student Success Department in a variety of opportunities to help create, coordinate, and implement activities to improve academic support and career readiness to achieve student success, retention, and timely graduation.
