Adult Education Teacher (Foundational Skills Instructor)

SER program mix includes: literacy and education, job readiness skills training, occupational skills training, vocational skills training, job seeker and employer services, welfare reform programming, economic and community development, employment, and extensive youth programming. The services delivery system includes the active participation of the public and private sectors, education, and government.
Provides and analyzes an academic assessment to identify the student’s academic needs.
Develops an Individual Learning Plan for each student assigned that tracks academic progress in each identified area of deficiency.
Provides instruction to students to improve foundational skills in reading, writing, and math.
Creates a weekly lesson plan that is curriculum based and addresses the needs of students in the Foundational Skills Class.
Monitors outcomes and assessments providing ongoing feedback and recommendations to increase academic proficiency.
Participates in staff meetings to discuss student participation and progress.
Provides regular communications to Career Coach on student progress and other issues.
Conducts regular pre and post testing on literacy levels.
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and academic achievement.
Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students and staff.
Ensures that each student’s attendance is recorded on appropriate timesheets/logs that will be entered into the One Stop Management Information System (OSMIS)
Ensures that student grades and progress are documented and case noted weekly.
Ensures that all relevant information as required by SER and the program-funding source are accurate and current.
Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as needed.
1. Associate’s degree or teaching certificate.
2. Two to three years’ experience in adult education.
3. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
4. Ability to utilize differentiated instruction to improve academic outcomes.
5. Ability to effectively educate and manage students from varying backgrounds and socio-economic levels, as well as academic level.
6. Ability to interact with students and staff in a positive and productive manner.
7. Ability to multi task and manage related pressures in the classroom while effectively handling conflict.
8. Experience with Microsoft Office software.
9. Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish and/or English/Arabic is preferred.
10. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
