HomeBase provides case management and essential services to at-risk individuals and families in Brooklyn and Staten Island to prevent homelessness. Individuals and families receive services that help them overcome problems with public benefits, housing, education, health care and other issues that could impede their ability to maintain stable households. Forward Focus supports clients in identifying their own goals for personal success and partners with them, providing individualized coaching to improve their executive functioning and presentation skills as competitive job applicants, assess potential career pathways and access educational and vocational training opportunities to gain skills in their field of interest in order to ultimately advance their employment options and earning power.


In this role, you will support adults who are seeking a New York State High School Equivalency diploma through the National External Diploma Program (NEDP). The person filling this position is expected under general direction, to instruct adults in academic subjects in order to develop and/or enhance their reading, math and writing skills. Conduct NEDP information sessions to clearly communicate the purpose and structure of the program, and determine if the program fits each person's unique learning needs. Evaluate and provide written feedback on subject areas according to specific criteria. Research and develop tutoring supports to keep sessions current and relevant. Provide personalized services to remove barriers to engagement, motivate and encourage.


Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) and one year of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience. Experience in adult education (HSE tutoring preferred) and career exploration – teaching style must be hands-on, interactive, and participatory (not lecture based). High energy and enthusiasm to work with adult students and propel them toward success; ability to design and implement innovative programs with a strong attention to detail. Working knowledge of coaching and motivating – guiding individuals through the stages of change leading to new behaviors and habits. Experience in communicating and working successfully with people from a broad range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
