About the organization

Big Bend National Park encompasses 801,000 acres of Chihuahuan Desert with varied scenery and diversity of plant and animal life. The park community consists of about 250 people, including employees of the NPS, Concession, Border Patrol, Postal Service, School, and their families. A state-accredited elementary school (K-8) is located in the main park housing area at Panther Junction. Elevation at Panther Junction is 3,800 feet..The park has a post office, gas stations, camper stores, restaurant, and lodge. Recreational opportunities include hiking, bird watching, photography, backcountry camping, bicycling, and river rafting. An active employee/community association sponsors social events throughout the year. A U.S. Customs Port of Entry provides access to visit Boquillas, Mexico across from Rio Grande Village. A passport is required to visit Boquillas, Mexico and to return through the Boquillas Port of Entry. The climate is generally pleasant with hot summers (90-110 degrees )


The major duties include:
Provide information and guidance on human resources policies and procedures to park staff.
Serve as the main point of contact between the park and the Servicing Human Resources Office (SHRO).
Serve as the payroll coordinator in Quicktime (NPS payroll system)and corrects payroll discrepancies.
Initiate and approve personnel actions in FPPS including hiring, terminations, adjustments, and awards.
May serve as either the uniform coordinator and/or the OWCP coordinator.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.


SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires the skill of a qualified typist with the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience that includes answering questions/providing guidance to employees regarding payroll issues; coordinating human resource activity; answer questions/provide guidance to employees regarding leave and earnings statement; serving as a point of contact with region and/or the Servicing Human Resources Office including payroll, personnel issues and questions, and hiring and recruitment. To be creditable, your experience must have involved the performance of various office duties described above equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service.


$38,921 to $56,222 per year
