Accounts Payable Manager

Internews is a media support nonprofit working in 100+ countries. We train journalists, tackle disinformation, and help media outlets become financially sustainable - so that everyone has trustworthy information to make informed decisions and hold power to account.


Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager will supervise Accounts Payable staff. This position reviews all accounts payable functions and ensures all payments are completed in alignment with policies and in a timely manner. The Manager monitors and performs monthly and annual processes such as reconciliations, regulatory reports (1099s) and assists with audit requirements. This position is considered a lead role in the department and supports peers for troubleshooting data entry or other procedural needs. In addition, the Manager provides support to the Finance & Accounting department overall by participating in strategic planning, supporting project management, and making plans to achieve goals set for their functional team.

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the United States will be considered.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a closely related filed.
• At least seven years of accounting experience with increasingly complex responsibilities, including direct supervisory experience.
• Thorough knowledge of not-for-profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and ability to implement these principles.
• Proven technical and logistical problem-solving capabilities.
• Proven ability to manage competing deadlines.
• High degree of social adaptability and sensitivity to cultural differences.
• Excellent interpersonal and oral and written and communication skills.
• Advanced MS Office Suite skills, particularly Excel.
• Experience in accounting procedures and training staff with a variety of skill levels.
• Experience with enterprise-level non-profit accounting software.

• CPA, advanced degree, or equivalent in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of 2CFR200.
• Experience in the review, development, and implementation of accounting processes for best practices, efficiency, and standardized control processes.


$80,800 - $105,100
