Abaarso School in Somaliland

About the organization

Abaarso School, featured on 60 Minutes, in the New York Times and BBC World, is a non-profit boarding school educating the best and the brightest Somali students in the Horn of Africa. The school prepares students to excel in higher education, while also focusing on extracurricular activities and community service. While only founded in 2009, Abaarso School has achieved success not seen in the area for several decades. Over 130 Abaarso students have earned full scholarships to continue their education abroad, including at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown, MIT, Swarthmore, Amherst, Brandeis, and many more. As of 2017, Abaarso holds accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Abaarso is looking for individuals interested in training these top high school students. Teachers will join our engaging community for a fulfilling experience that many of our past faculty have called “the most meaningful job I’ve ever had” and "life changing"

Come join our dynamic team! We have diverse class offerings for years 7-12 including but not limited to English, Chemistry, Leadership, Theater, Engineering, Algebra, Calculus, Research Methods, Computer Literacy, and Capstone senior thesis writing.

We are also always seeking professionals with experience in finance, business, IT, computer networking, communications, marketing, and/or management experience, to strengthen our organization.

If you have a unique passion, we would love to have you start a campus club! We have everything from sports, environmentalism, chess, and bird watching.

Abaarso School of Science and Technology offers a unique teaching environment. We do not necessarily look for the same attributes in our teachers as our International counterparts. Applicants must have a Bachelors degree but do not need prior teaching experience or teaching certifications. In fact, some of our most successful teachers come in with no prior classroom experience.
