21-22 AmeriCorps VISTA Leader
About the organization
Volunteer Iowa (The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service) is part of a network of state service commissions throughout the United States that exist to foster a bi-partisan state-level commitment to advancing service initiatives as well as developing, communicating, and promoting a statewide vision and ethic of service.
Volunteer Iowa serves as an AmeriCorps VISTA Intermediary, and places members with host sites throughout the state of Iowa, focusing on Education, Economic Opportunity and Healthy Futures initiatives in close collaboration with the Governor’s Office to combat poverty in the state of Iowa.
The VISTA Leader will raise awareness of national service opportunities across the state by participating in outreach activities such as career and volunteer fairs, informational sessions, and more. The VISTA Leader will participate in applicant tracking and screening, using their experience as an AmeriCorps or Peace Corps member to answer questions and provide helpful insight.
The VISTA Leader will also assist with the creation of recruitment and marketing materials for print and digital platforms.
The VISTA Leader will work in partnership with Volunteer Iowa’s second VISTA Leader to support members, providing resources and professional development opportunities, as well as reviewing member reports, organizing activities to celebrate days of service, and finding ways for our members to connect with each other. This is a great opportunity for the member to serve in state government, learn about Volunteer Iowa’s nonprofit partners, and pursue an interest in the service and volunteerism field.
Successful completion of at least one year of VISTA service, or one full term of full-time service (serving 1,700 hours or more) with either AmeriCorps State and National or AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), or at least one traditional term of Peace Corps service.
