The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s #1 conservation service organization and is seeking qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire a team of conservations stewards as a Project Leader for the 2022 Ice Age Trail Team.
Position Dates (subject to change):
Project Leader Training: May 15 – 26 (Harrisonburg, VA)
Leader season starts on site: 5/30
Member season starts: 6/6
Leader end date: 9/4
This will be an all-female team, made up of one Project Leader and four adult Members. The 2022 Ice Age Trail team will gain experience working on the Ice Age trail, one of the eleven national scenic trails in the US. The segments of the trail located in the Central and Northern parts of Wisconsin will be the primary areas of focus. The team will acquire valuable hands-on experience constructing and maintaining trail and trail structures. Some specifics about the projects include:
Constructing new trail
Building boardwalks among other structures
Routine trail maintenance including corridor clearing and invasive plant removal
Preference will be given to female-identifying applicants; we welcome cis and trans females, as well as non-binary and gender non-conforming people.
Qualifications
Act as a Corps Team Supervisor, by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics
Serve as an Advisor, by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship
Act as a Project Manager, by communicating with agency park partners, ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects, and upholding a positive representation of SCA
Perform tasks as a Program Administrator, by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
Experience working with youth or young adults, teaching or environmental education a plus
Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred – e.g., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, gardening
Current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification required by the start of training
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Must have ability to legally work in the US
Must have a valid driver’s license for 3+ years and MVR that meets SCA standards
Must be able to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
Strong candidates will have experience with plant identification and/or herbicide application.

$700 per week for 9 weeks
