2021-2022 Volunteer Iowa VISTA Leader
About the organization
Volunteer Iowa (the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service) is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. Our work is directed by a group of commissioners who represent different agencies and organizations that have an interest in service. Our office administers AmeriCorps State programming in Iowa, but we also oversee our own AmeriCorps VISTA project. We utilize VISTAs both directly in our office and in placements with partners statewide. Through our statewide Volunteer Iowa AmeriCorps VISTA Program we will seek to create a climate where low-income students and individuals are provided the tools needed for success.
The VISTA Leader will raise awareness of national service opportunities across the state by participating in outreach activities such as career and volunteer fairs, informational sessions, and more. The VISTA Leader will participate in applicant tracking and screening, using their experience as an AmeriCorps member to answer questions and provide helpful insight. The VISTA Leader will also assist with the creation of recruitment and marketing materials for print and digital platforms. The VISTA Leader will work in partnership with Volunteer Iowa’s second VISTA Leader to support members, providing resources and professional development opportunities, as well as reviewing member reports, organizing activities to celebrate days of service, and finding ways for our members to connect with each other. This is a great opportunity for the member to serve in state government, learn about Volunteer Iowa’s nonprofit partners, and pursue an interest in the service and volunteerism field.
Candidates must have completed a full term of AmeriCorps service (one year as a VISTA, 1,700 hours in State & National, or one full NCCC term) or successfully completed Peace Corps service prior to this position.
