Volunteer ESOL Conversation Teacher

About Washington English Center

The Washington English Center (WEC), is DC-based nonprofit organization that provides affordable English-language instruction and workforce programs to adult immigrants using volunteers.

Duties

Volunteers co-teach conversational ESOL classes to adult immigrants and refugees once a week online or in person in downtown DC. The commitment is for 1-2 hours a week for 6 weeks. Volunteers follow a provided syllabus and textbook and are given ongoing training. No teaching experience is required! Summer 2024 ESOL group classes start July 15th and run through August 21, 2024 however, our one-on-one tutoring sessions happen on a rolling basis and have flexible start and end dates. We accept applications throughout the year!

Qualifications

✓ be 18 years old or older ✓ be a proficient English speaker (non-native speakers welcome) ✓ make a 6-week teaching OR 11-session tutoring commitment ( 1-3 hours once a week)
