SER Metro-Detroit works to give each consumer of services the resources needed to create a life of self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment. SER program mix includes: literacy and education, job readiness skills training, occupational skills training, vocational skills training, job seeker and employer services, welfare reform programming, economic and community development, employment, and extensive youth programming. The services delivery system includes the active participation of the public and private sectors, education, and government.

Duties

1. Provides culturally responsive individual and small group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs. 2. Responds effectively to crises affecting students and faculty. 3. Adheres to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards for the counseling profession. 4. Monitors student academic performance, behavior, attendance and assists with appropriate interventions. 5. Support the Assistant Principal with addressing inappropriate student behaviors through individual or group restorative practices. 6. Assists with transcripts and the graduation progress planning. 7. Assists administration and recruitment team with presentations and the development of recruitment strategies. 8. Develops and maintain contacts with social service, law enforcement, private and public agencies. 9. Leads professional development workshops/trainings for staff. 10. Facilitates parent workshops on health and wellness, college and career readiness. 11. Meet with juniors and seniors throughout the school year. 12. Assist Senior Class with Xello to fulfill their graduation requirements. 13. Maintains necessary and accurate records for the school profile, graduation progress and school state reporting. 14. Provides support with planning and implementation of Student Assemblies. 15. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding students. 16. Supports and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders. 17. Serves as the Student Council Co-Advisor.

Qualifications

1. MA/MS in Counseling from an accredited college. 2. 3-5 years of experience with individual and group counseling. 3. Exceptional interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills. 4. Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner. 5. Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives and community partners. 6. Ability to maintain confidentiality. 7. Ability to help students gain an awareness of interests and abilities. 8. Ability to understand student maturity levels and the process of goal selection. 9. Ability to understand the unique social-emotional needs of individual students. 10. Experience working in an urban setting. 11. Proficiency in each student management system; FileMaker, MiStar and APEX Learning. 12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms. 13. Must possess the ability to remain composed and work effectively during high pressured and stressful situations. 14. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of office equipment. 15. Must possess the ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, meet and manage deadlines. 16. Must represent SER Metro at all times in a positive and professional manner. 17. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
