Status Report on Peace Corps Volunteers in the Philippines

Washington, D.C., September 7, 2000 - Peace Corps volunteers serving in the Philippines are not located in the area near the recent kidnapping of an American citizen in the western area of the island of Mindanao.
Volunteers in Mindanao have been asked to refrain from travel on public transportation and all volunteers are restricted from traveling to the western and southern areas of the island.
Safety and security is the highest priority in every country where Peace Corps volunteers serve. Peace Corps staff continue to monitor the situation and are in close contact with all volunteers in the Philippines.
