Status of Peace Corps Volunteers in Haiti

Washington, D.C., November 21, 2000—As presidential and legislative elections approach in Haiti, Peace Corps is closely monitoring the situation and is working with the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince to ensure the safety and security of all Peace Corps volunteers. At present, pre-election activity is concentrated in the capital where there are no volunteers. All volunteers serving in Haiti have been contacted and have been instructed to remain at their sites until further notice.
Families with questions should call the Peace Corps at (202) 638-2574.
