Readout of Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn’s Meeting with United States Ambassador to Belize, Michelle Kwan
Belmopan, Belize – Peace Corps Director Spahn met with United States Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan in Belmopan, Belize. Director Spahn and Ambassador to Belize Michelle Kwan discussed a range of bilateral issues, including current Peace Corps Belize operations, the long-standing relationship between the Peace Corps and the Government of Belize, and Belize’s literacy goals. Underscoring the importance of education, both emphasized that Peace Corps Volunteers will continue to work side by side with local schools to improve literacy rates for Belize’s schoolchildren.
Belize is one of the Peace Corps’ longest partner countries. The agency has been present in Belize since 1962 and has had more than 2,091 Volunteers who have served to date. Peace Corps Belize currently has 13 volunteers in the health and education sectors.
