READOUT OF PEACE CORPS DIRECTOR CAROL SPAHN’S MEETING WITH GOVERNOR ROY COOPER OF NORTH CAROLINA

(Raleigh, N.C. | Thursday, March 23, 2023) – Peace Corps Director Carol Spahn this week met with Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Director Spahn and Governor Cooper discussed her visits to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke; Bennett College; and North Carolina Central University; to celebrate each institution’s connection to the agency and shared commitment to service.

They also discussed opportunities for North Carolinians of all ages to join the Peace Corps and the diverse skills that returned Peace Corps volunteers gain that make them highly sought after candidates to employers in the public and private sectors.

The Peace Corps has formal partnerships with nine colleges and universities in North Carolina, including six Peace Corps prep schools and three Coverdell fellow schools. Since 1961, nearly 5,000 residents of North Carolina have answered the call to serve, including 44 Volunteers serving in 25 different countries currently. An additional 82 invitees will depart from North Carolina later in 2023.
