Peace Corps Director Gaddi Vasquez To Meet With Bay Area Ethnic Media

"As ambassadors of peace, volunteers must reflect the diversity of our nation," says Director Vasquez

Peace Corps Director Gaddi Vasquez will be visiting the San Francisco Bay area on July 30 for several speaking engagements regarding new directions for Peace Corps, and the agency\'s efforts to meet the President\'s challenge of doubling the number of volunteers in the field.

In conjunction with this effort to increase the number of volunteers, Director Vasquez considers it vitally important that we also increase the representation of diverse populations within the ranks of volunteers. "Peace Corps volunteers are the grassroots ambassadors of the American people and therefore must reflect the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of this nation," said Vasquez.

In order to reach out to the ethnic press, and highlight Peace Corps\' efforts to increase diversity recruitment, Director Vasquez would like to meet with members of the ethnic media during his visit to San Francisco. Following this gathering, the Director will make a public presentation in the Commonwealth Club seminar hall from noon to 1pm. The media is invited to attend.
