Charles "Wick" Caldwell Appointed CFO Of Peace Corps

Washington D.C. July 24, 2002-Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez recently announced the appointment of Charles Wickliffe “Wick” Caldwell as the new Chief Financial Officer of the Peace Corps. Caldwell joined the Peace Corps on June 6, 2002.

The Chief Financial Officer is a senior policy making position, responsible for directing and monitoring the Agency’s internal budget processes, as well as managing Agency financial systems, accounting, and fiscal operations. Caldwell will also have the task of overseeing the development of the Peace Corps budget requests to Congress.

Before his appointment, Caldwell most recently worked as the Executive Director of the Census Monitoring Board for Congressional Members, the agency responsible for oversight of the 2000 Decennial Census.

Prior to Caldwell’s position as Executive Director, he was a Program Manager and Contracting Officer with the U.S. Census Bureau. Caldwell’s credentials also include CEO positions held at an oil and gas brokerage firm in Oklahoma, and a communications and government affairs firm in Alexandria, VA.

Caldwell received his BA degree in history “With Highest Distinction” from George Mason University in Virginia and also attended Centre College of Kentucky and the University of Kentucky. A native of Kentucky, he spent the early part of his career working as a reporter for the Lexington Herald.

In accepting the appointment, Mr. Caldwell replied, “Early this year, the White House Personnel Office contacted me and asked if I would be interested in serving with the Administration. Having been on the job for five weeks now, I am more impressed than ever with the dedication to service I find here, both in the Volunteers and staff. And in this time in our country’s history, we face an important task. With the folks we have here, I feel confident the challenge will be met.”
