University of Notre Dame - Mendoza College of Business

About this program

The University of Notre Dame Master of Nonprofit Administration affords one of the best graduate degree returns on investment in the country, aided by merit-based fellowships. The Paul D. Coverdell Peace Corps Fellowship covers 25% of tuition and honors those who have served in the Peace Corps and whose goals are to work in the nonprofit sector. Founded in 1954 by Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, CSC, the Notre Dame MNA/EMNA program was designed to help those with a servant’s heart gain vital business administration skills. The program provides an exceptional business education through a nonprofit lens focused on essential issues including the study of philanthropy, making an impact through administrative effectiveness, accountability, and revenue generation, as well as the core disciplines of business. Programs are housed within the Mendoza College of Business, a top business school.

MNA Program

  • Residential, full-time 10 months
  • 36 credit hours
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Includes a practicum developing additional not for profit (NFP) experience
  • Begins mid-August
  • Commencement mid-May

Executive MNA Program - An accelerated hybrid program

  • A flexible, hybrid format that can be completed in a few as 14 months or up to 60 months, designed to meet the needs of working professionals
  • Fall and Spring Semester courses are taught virtually online (synchronous)
  • Summer courses are in person on the campus of Notre Dame
    • 5 summer modules in total, each module being two weeks in duration
    • Modules I, II, IV, and V include required courses for a total of 8 weeks on campus. Module III includes electives. Electives may be taken in person, on campus during the summers OR may be taken during the fall/spring semesters.
    • A total of 8 to 10 weeks on campus (in two week module increments), over 14-60 months depending upon course load, is required
  • 42 credit hours
  • More than two years of nonprofit experience required
  • Begins early June
  • GRE waiver may be requested

When submitting your application be sure to include a signed copy of your Description of Service (DOS) to indicate that you are applying for the Coverdell Fellowship.

Internship

MNA Program

The experiential learning is comprised of two parts:

Fall semester practicum: Placement of a candidate with a local, regional, national, or international nonprofit and/or social enterprise organization to gain valuable field experience within an agency while having the opportunity to turn theory into practice. Completion of a mutually-agreed upon project at the agency.

Spring semester synthesis: Candidate and organizations will engage in faculty-led discussions centered on work completed in the fall semester.

EMNA Program

The Field Project is a capstone experience for students emphasizing the practice of nonprofit leadership, sustainability and administration based on EMNA coursework and research and applied to a high need U.S. community nonprofit. Requires approximately 100 hours.

Other opportunities

EMNA candidates may qualify for an additional 3 credit hours of tuition funding based upon successful completion of a Field Project in a high need U.S. community.
