Borehole Project

Project by Kimberly Green, Volunteer from Idaho

The objective of this grant is to provide a reliable, safe source of water for the residents of the village. The community has participated in obtaining a geological water survey, developed a plan for the project's sustainability, and elected a group to oversee the borehole's maintenance. This involvement has enhanced the skills of the committee members, who have gained knowledge of project and financial management processes.

Community contributions include providing the land for the borehole, constructing a road to the borehole, and labor for transporting materials, but additional funding is crucial as the cost of drilling a borehole exceeds the community's financial capacity. Once funding is secured and an appointment is made with the drilling company, the project will take approximately one month to complete. During this period, weekly information sessions will be held with community members on topics such as water sanitation and hygiene, food safety, waste management, and environmental health.

Sustainability will be ensured by the appointed committee members, supported by the local government. The local water committee will monitor and evaluate the project by providing updates at monthly government meetings. These updates will include reviews of monthly pump inspections, maintenance reports, financial records, water usage, and environmental upkeep.
