A local woman instucts young girls on proper culinary practices
Local woman instructs young girls on proper culinary practices.

The aim of this project is to provide a hygienic environment where the youth, that is boys and girls from ages 13 to 17, will participate in healthy lifestyle trainings and in cooking club. Also, this project seek to encourage boys to take part in cooking since in the Georgian Culture women are the ones that cook. Therefore, encouraging males to participate in this project will break the gender roles stereotype. The participants will take part in weekly activities involving how to live a healthy lifestyle and practical cooking skills. The first six participants will be recruited by the staff to be youth leaders first receiving trainings about the club from the staff and later recruiting six individuals to attend the weekly activities. In all there will be 6 teams .The youth leaders will then lead their teams during trainings and cooking sections. Although the activities will be youth led, a staff from the youth house will supervise all the weekly meetings and give necessary instructions. A detailed curriculum will be developed and shared with youth leaders so that they will be aware of the weekly activities in advance. At the end of the school year there will be a competition among these teams to demonstrate the cooking skills they have learnt and the winner of this competition will be awarded. In addition  all participants will receive certificates of completion for their efforts.

It is to be noted that the creation of this program is as a result of the  need assessment conducted among these youth in September, 2017. About 60%  of the youth expressed the desire to have a  cooking club and of that percentage 50% expressed  the desire to have a career in the food industry in the future. Therefore my colleagues and I saw this as a great opportunity to have a cooking club with a healthy lifestyle training component to it.  This project is intended to foster the leadership and social entrepreneurship in these youth and further promote entrepreneurial activities in the community. With this skill they can establish various food industry businesses and subsequently create employment for other residents in the town.
