This project is an enhancement and extension of the local health and fitness program. I have witnessed people lose between 4 and 10 kilograms, seen improvement in attitudes and confidence, and witnessed people using health as a vessel to take back control of other areas of their lives. The community is giving time, volunteers, equipment, and space. Community leaders have ensured the primary use of the building will be for the creation of a safe female health education and workout space. They have also offered a guarantee of hiring female leaders and to have women friendly spaces in the building. The local women have already put in endless hours with publicity, resource creation, translation, cooking and preparing food for workshops. The project activities are workshops, trainings, and camps to further enhance their health education and technical training with new equipment and resources. This will improve their ability to sustainably lead the programs without a peace corps volunteer. The objectives are technical and leadership training, and sustainable health programming. The primary impact is equipping a group of women to lead strongly, safely, and effectively which will create a secondary impact of everyone in the community benefiting from the resources and future trainings. For example, once the women are taught how to properly weight lift they will be able to empower other women to do so and the impact is then boundless. They have given so much and are requesting our support. Let's make this happen!

This project was planned with my main counterpart as well as counterparts in a local health class. They have designed the workshops including: what types of materials should be covered, the types of equipment they are most interested in using, and the kind of activities they are interested in doing. For example, many have discussed how we can plan a marathon. Some women have received some basic training and they will be helping to create a health curriculum. They will also play a large role in facilitating many of the workshops. These dedicated women will be in charge of advertising, member retention, regular attendance, translation, and event preparation. The quality equipment provided by the community will last a long time. Should something need to be replaced the town commune is going to cover the items in the future. The local leadership team is already in place and will be responsible for sustaining the benefits of this project.
