Our project is called the Accelerate Tavush, a rural women’s business development program. Tavush is a region that hosts a historic monastery that attracts thousands of tourists a year. Adjacent to the monastery, there are 15 souvenir tents owned by local women. These women are our program participants, and directly expressed their need to us for a training to increase their capacities as business-owners. Accelerate Tavush is comprised of both an introductory level 5-day training as well as a more advanced level 4-week long training. These trainings will focus on themes such as interacting with foreign tourists, using google tools, social media for business, product branding”, basic english with tourists, resume writing, and more. In addition, the participants will learn how to create new products from raw materials based on the raw materials available to them in Tavush. The topics are: jewelry, polymere, malt & cement, and sewing & fabrics. The potential impact this training will have on the women is they will learn new practices and tools that can be directly applied to improve their current businesses. The aim of this project is that upon completion of the training, we will have a successful group of Tavush Women’s Business Development Academy graduates, who will have new skills and knowledge that will be directly applied to their own business to increase the capacity of their daily work.
