Training Specialist : Education Program

The Training Specialist for the Education Program position is responsible for the design, execution, and evaluation of adult-education training for American volunteers who come to live and work in the countryside of the Dominican Republic for two years. The Training Specialist assumes the key leadership role of training activities at our training unit, and in rural settings. Training methods include adult learning principals, are inter-active and multi-media. The Training Specialist reports to the Master Trainer, and coordinates with the Training Director. This position will also work in conjunction with the Program Managers (PMs) for the specific program of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Licenciatura) or Technical Certificate in International Development, Psychology, Adult Education or other related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in the Education, Psychology and International Development.
  • Strong active listening and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated command of major Microsoft Office applications.
  • Spanish Fluency, advanced English skills (language skills will be tested).
  • Valid Dominican residency documentation and Dominican ID (Cédula).
  • Availability to live and work in rural areas of the interior of the country for up to 8 weeks at a time, twice a year.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a background check.
  • Valid Dominican driver’s license.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience designing and facilitating virtual learning programs and classes.
  • Post graduate or further training e.g. “diplomado” Technical Certificate in International Development, Psychology, Education or Adult Education.
  • Demonstrated ability in Adult Education and Training.
  • At least two years’ experience in adult-education training, community development, in program development at the grass-roots level with an NGO, government, agency or business.
  • Experience in community development.
  • Knowledge of the social, political characteristics of the Dominican Republic.
  • Ability to write clear, precise reports and documents.
  • Demonstrated skills to work effectively across races and cultures.
  • Teamwork oriented and customer service attitude.

Peace Corps Dominican Republic is looking for a house or apartment to rent for residential purposes, with the following requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum space of 190 m2
  • 3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms.
  • Located within the metropolitan Santo Domingo area - desired neighborhoods: Bella Vista, Las Praderas, La Castellana, Arroyo Hondo, Piantini, Paraiso, Naco, La Esperilla, Los Cacicazgos, etc.
  • If located in a building must have a lift and cannot be higher than 4th floor.
  • Electric generator: If located in a residential complex.
  • Is in a minimally sanitary and usable condition.
  • Secured parking spaces for 2 vehicles.
  • Furnished with white line appliances.
  • The institution is the Lessee, and as such the family composition of tenants may vary anytime there is a change in staff. Tenants may have children and/or pets.
  • The Landlord is willing to sign a lease based on Peace Corps template.
  • The Landlord must be able to modify and pay for required security requirements, as requested.
  • The property must meet the residential safety standards, including seismic standards, as determined by a US Government-selected engineer.

Other preferred requirements:

  • Condominium complexes are preferred to stand-alone units.
  • Open air playground is desirable.
