Case Studies in Models of Financing and Sustaining Community and National Volunteer Service Programs

This report and case studies address the different models of funding for community and national service programs globally. The illustrative practices in resource mobilization and resource allocation seek to help community/youth volunteer programs, service-learning school/university-based programs, and national service corps programs strengthen their start up and sustainability strategies.

Close of Service (COS) Trainer's Handbook and Appendix (T0007)
The COS conference takes place approximately three months prior to a Volunteer’s end-of-service date. The purpose of the conference is to help Volunteers close their host country service and plan for transition to the next steps in their lives, including continued involvement with the Peace Corps as a returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV).

On-Going Language Learning Manual (M0064)
To many of us, it may seem that some people are born with a gift for learning languages, while others seem burdened with a poor memory. But fortunately or not, those descrip tions apply to only a tiny percentage of adults tackling a new language. Although language learning sometimes seems like a long and complex task, nearly everyone can do it and most find it enjoyable and rewarding. Thousands of Peace Corps Volunteers will tell you the same thing.

Small Project Assistance (SPA) Program: Supporting Sustainable Community Development (M0082)
One way to transfer skills and build capacity is to conduct "hands-on" projects in your community. SPA grants enable you to support your community in reaching a particular development goal by "jump starting" a local development process or expanding an existing activity.
