Return to Water in Africa

Along the paved road from the capital, Lomé, to all the big cities, village women sell their specialties of cold water, meat on sticks, roasted peanuts, sweet treats, fruits, and vegetables to travelers. The rainwater in the ditch becomes a health hazard when people dump their garbage there and children urinate in it.
