Return to Water in Africa

There are tropical flatlands along the coast of Tanzania, but a hot, arid plateau at an average of 1,200 m (about 4,000 feet) makes up most of the country's landscape. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, is located near the eastern border. Tanzania also claims the fabled island of Zanzibar, the largest coral island off the coast of Africa. —Hassan Baroudy
