Return to Water in Africa

This water pipe is used for pumping water from the Volta River to the town of Adidome, where people then fetch water from standpipes. The Volta River is downstream from the dam that created the largest manmade lake in the world. Damming the river has damaged the river ecology; however, the dam is used for generating electricity in the area.
