Return to Water in Africa

Contributors

Grateful acknowledgment is extended to all the contributors who made the Water in Africa project possible: The Department of Education, on behalf of the Consortium for Education, bestowed a generous grant to fund the project's planning, development, and implementation. Ritz Camera provided funds for the development of all the photos taken by Peace Corps Volunteers. The National Geographic Society allowed us the use of their Xpeditions maps. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Campus Center for Appropriate Technology at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, provided us with many diagrams. Renaissance Media donated time to the graphic design of the site. The Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water contributed lesson plans on water purification to the unit on water-borne illnesses.

The Water in Africa website would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of many people in Africa and the United States. More than 90 Peace Corps Volunteers contributed photos and stories about their daily use of water and its importance in the cultural and religious celebrations, methods of transportation, and recreational activities of their communities. Educators from across the United States spent many hours poring over the resources provided by the Volunteers and creating the learning units on this site. Finally, the staff of Coverdell World Wise Schools put it all together to create this site.

Sincere appreciation is extended to all who have made the Water in Africa project possible.
