Before you enroll in the Correspondence Match program, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- You and your students will be learning about another country by corresponding with a Peace Corps Volunteer. The program is not intended to be a student-to-student exchange
- You should plan to communicate at least once a month
- To maximize the depth of student learning, matches are meant to be long-term (one to two years)
- For ideas on structuring your correspondence for the classroom, use our online Correspondence Match handbook (pdf)
- Email filters can often block unknown addresses, please be sure to add wwsinfo@peacecorps.gov to your email address book to ensure that we can reach you with the name and contact information of your match
To Request a Specific Type of Volunteer:
If a specific Volunteer invited you to enroll, be sure to include his or her name in the field labeled "Request for Volunteer."
Otherwise, please include your top three preferences, if any, for:
- Where you would like your Volunteer match to be located (e.g., No preference, Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Central America, etc.)
- Language request (if any), such as French or Spanish-speaking
- Type of work in which you would like your Volunteer match to be involved (e.g., Education, Business Development, Health, etc.)
Keep in mind that the more specific your request, the longer it may take to find you a suitable Volunteer.
