Recipe: Hong Shao Doufu

Materials & Procedures


  1. 250g tofu (white)
  2. Red hot pepper paste to taste
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 1 green onion, cut into 1" pieces
  5. 4 sliced garlic cloves 2 T oil
  6. 2 T starch in 2 T cool water


  1. Wash tofu and cut into one inch cubes.
  2. Heat oil to smoking in a wok.
  3. Add tofu and cook until brown.
  4. Add red hot pepper paste, onion, and garlic.
  5. Add water and cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the water drops below the level of the tofu.
  6. Add the starch solution, stirring well.
  7. When thick, add salt to taste.
