Benefits

Students may earn between 6 and 12 credit hours for overseas Peace Corps service in the form of up to 6 hours of Academic Internship or Thesis, and up to 6 hours of Independent Study directed by a faculty member.

There are competitively awarded graduate assistantships available to students accepted in to the MI program. In addition there are scholarships available for financial assistance while the student serves overseas.

Description

The Master's of Environmental Studies (MES) Peace Corps MI course will consist of a minimum of 37 credit hours, depending on the program pursued. The degree program will consist of 3 to 4 semesters of academic study. Typically a student will spend about one year on campus doing course work and one additional semester on campus after completing the Peace Corps service.

Specialty interests include water-related issues, environmental geochemistry, geoinformatics, conservation biology, ecology and environmental policy.

Both non-thesis Academic internship and thesis options are available and will depend on the specifics of the Peace Corps assignment.

Requirements

Normal MES application requirements include:



  • GRE score
  • Transcripts
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Previous introductory coursework in biology, chemistry and statistics
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Written statement of goals and reasons for applying to the Peace Corps MI program
