FAQs

I've Accepted My Invitation

  • I have accepted my invitation, but I haven’t received access to the New Volunteer Portal. What should I do?

Login information to the New Volunteer Portal is automatically sent to the email address you provided in your Peace Corps application after you accept your invitation. If you do not see it, please make sure to check your spam folder. If you still have not received it, please email staging@peacecorps.gov.

  • Is the New Volunteer Portal the same as the Medical Applicant Portal?

The New Volunteer Portal and the Medical Applicant Portal are two different systems, each with their own unique usernames and passwords.  You should have received access to the Medical Applicant Portal (MAP) early in the application process and you should have received access to the New Volunteer Portal only after you accepted your formal Peace Corps invitation. Questions about the New Volunteer Portal can be directed to staging@peacecorps.gov, while questions about MAP can go to amsadmin@peacecorps.gov

  • My username and password for the New Volunteer Portal aren't working. What do I do?

As soon as you log in with your original username and password you received, you will be asked to change this password. Once you change your password, you will be brought back to the initial log-in page to log in with your updated password. If you continue to log in with your original password, your account will be locked. When using the "Forgot Password" feature, please make sure not to put a space after your username. If you forget your username (which is the email address you provided in your Peace Corps application), then you can email staging@peacecorps.gov for access.

  • My account for the New Volunteer Portal is locked. What do I do?

Please email staging@peacecorps.gov to have your password reset.

  • There are no forms in the “Step 3 Forms” tab - is this normal?

After you’ve completed all of the activities in the “Step 1 Activities” tab and created your electronic signature in the “Step 2 eSignature” tab, your “Step 3 Forms” tab should become accessible. You will only have a form if you opted into the life insurance policy.

  • What if I need to change something on one of my activities or forms?

Please email staging@peacecorps.gov and we will respond to your email as soon as possible. If you need to change something on a financial document (e.g., Direct Deposit or Application to Allot Readjustment Allowance), please work with your director of management and operations upon your arrival in your country of service.

  • Does the New Volunteer Portal work best with particular browsers?

The New Volunteer Portal is designed to work with multiple browsers and versions, but is optimized to work with Internet Explorer versions 6–9+, Firefox versions 3–16+, Safari versions 4–5+ and Chrome versions 12–19+.

  • Do I need any browser plug-ins to complete my activities and forms in the New Volunteer Portal?

Yes. Adobe Flash Player 10.1+ and Adobe Reader 9+ are required to successfully access and complete portions of the New Volunteer Portal.

  • I have a question about something in the New Volunteer Portal. Whom should I contact?

Please email staging@peacecorps.gov unless an activity or form instructs you to contact another office or individual.

  • I originally stated that I did not want the optional Peace Corps life insurance but I have since changed my mind. What do I do?

Please email staging@peacecorps.gov and we can provide you with a document so you can list your intended beneficiaries.

  • I originally stated that I wanted the optional Peace Corps life insurance but I have since changed my mind. What do I do?

Your initial response generated an additional activity in the "Step 3 Forms" tab that must be completed, regardless of your change of heart, so that you can complete all portions of the New Volunteer Portal prior to service. Please email staging@peacecorps.gov and we can update your initial response.

  • I originally stated that I did not want to authorize Peace Corps to release my personal materials but I have since changed my mind. What do I do?

Please email staging@peacecorps.gov and we can update your initial response.

  • I originally stated that I wanted to authorize Peace Corps to release my personal materials but I have since changed my mind. What do I do?

Your initial response generated a subsequent activity that must be completed, regardless of your change of heart, so that you can complete all portions of the New Volunteer Portal prior to service. Please email staging@peacecorps.gov and we will update your initial response.

  • Where can I find the passport (and visa) instructions in the New Volunteer Portal?

In the New Volunteer Portal's "Content" tab, go to "Country Resources," and then locate your country of service. Clicking on your country name will open a .zip file with country-specific information, including the instructions and documents for your passport and visa (if applicable).

  • I had access to the New Volunteer Portal from a previous invitation but I am now departing in a later training class. Which username and password should I use?

Always use the username and password that were emailed you most recently and that are associated with the invitation you've recently accepted.

  • Do I need a "Letter of Intent" from the Peace Corps in order to apply for my visa?

No, please list Peace Corps as your employer and/or Peace Corps Volunteer as your position. If your country requires additional documentation, you will be contacted by your country desk officer or CWTSatoTravel.

  • Where do I upload my Updated Résumé and Aspiration Statement in the New Volunteer Portal?

You need to upload these two documents in your Application Portal (the portal through which you first applied) using your original username and password. Please upload both documents in the Application Portal using the appropriate attachment category (Updated Résumé or Aspiration Statement). If you have any technical difficulties with the Application Portal, please email application@peacecorps.gov.

  • I have accepted my invitation, but I haven't received any email regarding my Final Medical Clearance. What should I do?

Email amsadmin@peacecorps.gov immediately to have the email resent. If you log into your Medical Applicant Portal and choose My Tasks, you should see the tasks for Final Medical Clearance listed. Please note if your departure date is more than 180 days away, you will only see your dental and immunization tasks until you are within the 180-day window.

  • The Medical Applicant Portal does not recognize my login. What do I do?

Sometimes applicants confuse the login with another email address used for other purposes. If you have a separate email address from the one on your resume, please try that one as well. If you attempt to login unsuccessfully more than six times, your account will be locked and you will need to email amsadmin@peacecorps.gov to have your account unlocked. When contacting us, please include your name and your seven-digit candidate reference number.

  • I've logged into the Medical Applicant Portal before, but I forgot my password. What do I do?

Use the Reset Your Password link, just below the entry field for your login and password. You will need your user name and your candidate reference number to reset your password. Once you've reset it, you'll receive an email containing the temporary password to the account we have on file for you. When you receive your temporary password, we recommend copying and pasting that password for best results. Once logged in, please use the Change Password option to reset your password.
