How do I qualify to apply to be a Peace Corps Volunteer?

In order to qualify for the Peace Corps, you must be a US citizen at least 18 years old, and a fluent English speaker.

What can help?

Language:
A demonstrated ability to learn a language is an important factor in being selected as a Peace Corps Volunteer. About half of Peace Corps programs require either two years of Spanish or one year of French. Other languages such as Russian and Arabic are also useful.

Leadership and community service:
The Peace Corps seeks applicant with leadership skills and community service. You can learn more about volunteer opportunities Get Involved section. Demonstrating motivation and commitment, work skills and knowledge, social sensitivity and emotional maturity will help any applicant.

A College Degree:
While a college degree is not required, over 93% of current Volunteers have degrees. If you do not have one, you would need specific experience in one of our volunteer work sectors.
