Take an RPCV to Work Day – Guide for Employers
Friday, March 1, 2013
The Peace Corps is proud to announce an exciting opportunity which combines cultural exchange, networking, and a chance to meet returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), all of whom are qualified professionals with international experience. Make sure you don’t miss this chance to participate in the 2nd annual Take an RPCV to Work Day!
March 1st, 2013 marks the 52nd anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s signing of the executive order that established the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps community celebrates this momentous occasion by engaging in culture-sharing activities with schools, civic groups, and professional organizations.
Take an RPCV to Work Day is a program designed to encourage RPCV visits to corporations, federal agencies, nonprofits, and organizations around the country. By shadowing representatives from participating organizations, RPCVs will learn more about professional opportunities and build networking contacts. In turn, participating organizations will benefit from learning about the cultures and traditions of the countries where the returned Volunteers served, and will be able to share the mission and values of their organization with the talented, passionate, and resourceful members of the RPCV community.
We have provided sample agendas (DOC) (PDF) to help you in your planning, but please feel free to tailor this to the needs of your organization. However you schedule the day, we do ask that all employers participating in Take an RPCV to Work Day allow RPCVs to host a short presentation to talk about the culture and the people of the countries in which they served as Peace Corps Volunteers.
To host an RPCV, simply send us an e-mail with the following details and we will post this information on our new RPCV Career Link online jobs board. RPCVs can then visit the site and reach out to you directly to express interest in visiting your organization on March 1st. Please e-mail us at rvs@peacecorps.gov as soon as you have found your match(es) so that we can remove your announcement from our website.
In your e-mail, please include the following information:
- Organization/Agency name
- Department/Office
- Contact Person (Full Name)
- Contact’s E-mail, Phone Number (or both – this will be posted on our website)
- City/State
- Number of RPCVs you are willing to host for Take an RPCV to Work Day
We would love to hear your feedback after Take an RPCV to Work Day and will be selecting employers to spotlight on our website. E-mail stories and photos (and any questions you might have) to rvs@peacecorps.gov.
Thank you for participating!
