Roles and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director – Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist plays an integral role in the Human Resources Department and will be responsible for supporting and coordinating various HR functions working in close collaboration with various members of the department and the organization.

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures and participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various HR policies, procedures, practices and standards and maintain and enforce compliance with federal and state regulations at all times concerning matters related to all aspects of employment.
  • Acts as the department’s liaison with various operational departments within the organization such as Finance, IT, General Services, etc.
  • Maintains and acts as the subject-matter expert of the various HR Information Systems (ADP & Ceridian) including processing personnel changes accurately and compiling necessary supporting documents.
  • Conducts new employee orientation to ensure employees gain thorough understanding of benefit plans and enrollment provisions so that individuals can make informed decisions.
  • Acts as one of the point of contacts with various insurance carriers and foster effective working relationship with various vendors and their representatives.
  • Administers health and welfare plans including enrollments and terminations processing required documentation through Payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
  • As situation arises, assists employee with resolving complaints related to health and welfare plans, referring difficult or more complex issues to supervisor as needed.
  • Processes monthly invoices from insurance providers including reviewing invoices for accuracy and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Supports with the coordination of the annual benefits open enrollment including distribution of materials, communicating provisions of the benefit plans, arrange for on-site meetings and processing of any enrollment changes within the given deadlines.
  • Assists with the preparation and submission of the annual affirmative action plan, EEO, VETS and other reporting requirements.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the department’s operations.
  • As needed, attends and represents the organization in Recruitment Fairs, seminars and events.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments, as applicable.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • At least three to five years' experience with HR administration in a generalist capacity
  • Familiarity with, if not mastery of, FMLA, COBRA, ERISA, and other related federal and state regulations
  • Experience with various HR Information Systems (Ceridian, ADP, etc.)
  • B.A./B.S. in Human Resources or related area/program of study; Master’s degree preferred
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Excellent verbal/written skills and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to partner and collaborate with various levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Certification(s) in Human Resources (PHR, CEBS, etc.) highly desirable
