As the first point of contact in our offices, Service Representatives are responsible for speaking with beneficiaries or inquirers in person or by telephone to provide information on Social Security laws, rules, and regulations. This includes obtaining information to determine eligibility and entitlement for programs administered by SSA, and using state-of-the-art computer technology to access and update information about claims. The position is especially suited for a flexible, service-oriented individual who enjoys the challenge of a fast-paced work environment.


GS-5/6/7: 1 year of specialized experience

  1. Applying laws, rules or regulations and written guidelines.
  2. Communicate orally in order to provide information, assistance, or instructions to members of the general public or their representatives.
  3. Perform administrative and clerical processes using a computer to reconcile discrepancies, associate documents with related files/records, etc.
  4. Write correspondence in response to inquiries and drafted a variety of other written products.


  • GS-5: 4 years college leading to a Bachelor’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree or combination of job experience and educucation.
  • GS-6: half year of graduate education.
  • GS-7: 1 year of related graduate level education.

Note: Graduate education must be in a field that is directly related to the position.
