  • Provides written and oral information to the public.
  • Works closely with resource and area specialists in order to answer or to obtain answers to inquiries pertaining to management issues.
  • Provides a positive link between the District and the public, keeping both entities informed and gains support for such programs as Volunteers, Public Involvement, and Take Pride in America.
  • Operates the area's switchboard directing all incoming calls.
  • Types letters, memos and reports in final form.
  • Assists in general office work as assigned. handles all aspects of the travel program, including but not limited to issuing travel authorizations and reviewing travel vouchers prior to submittal.
  • Sells documents, maps, records, firewood and Christmas tree cutting permits.
  • Responds to difficult problems arising from contacts with the public.

Many persons unaccustomed to dealing with public land and title matters are unable to coherently state their problems. This requires the incumbent to ask probing questions in order to get a clear and accurate understanding of the information sought. Also, the incumbent deals professionally, respectfully, and firmly with people demanding information and services beyond the capabilities and policies of the District Office. When unable to respond to questions, refers the person to the appropriate specialist.


  • Current noncompetitive eligibility.
  • One year of Specialized experience. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.


  • Education: Four years' above high school.


  • A combination of education and experience.

Location Details

  • The City of Vale is a town rich with Eastern Oregon history. Incorporated as a town in 1889, the location was in use for many years previously, first by explorers then trappers and finally travelers and emigrants along the Oregon Trail. The hot springs made it a popular stopping location.
