As a Financial/Budget Analyst, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Distributes budgets to management officials responsible for programs/sections, maintains accounting records to prevent over obligation, and analyzes funds to identify possible trends which may result in surplus of shortage funds.
  • Conducts research and analysis related to resolution of budget related issues and activities. Develops recommendations and conclusions out of ordinary financial issues.
  • Projects and analyzes the potential effects if budgetary actions on program viability and attainment of objectives.
  • Reviews and coordinates accounting records and prepares budget execution documents. Monitors, tracks, and reports on program obligations.
  • Provides guidance and manages review and coordination on budget execution with program managers.
  • Provides analysis to identify differences between current spending and budgeted estimates and makes adjustments in accounting systems as appropriate.
  • Reviews and coordinates accounting records and prepares apportionments, allocations, and/or operating budgets.


Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent. Examples of creditable experience may include:

  • Performing and advising on budget administration tasks and to identify and refer those reprogramming actions which require prior approval to officials at higher echelons; OR,
  • Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR,
  • A combination of experience and education as described above.

Note: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.

Location Details

We currently have vacancies in the Office of Administration’s Finance Staff and International Training Financial Management Staff (ITFM). These positions serve the Criminal Division within the Department of Justice as the experts in a wide range of budget and program issues affecting the Division.
