Peace Corps Volunteers help farmers to improve local diets and increase income through farming techniques consistent with environmental conservation. They work with communities and farmers on projects such as implementing agroforestry techniques to improve soil quality and conserve water, beekeeping and honey production, organic vegetable gardening, and nutrition education.
Agriculture Volunteers also work with farmer cooperatives, nongovernmental organizations, and agribusiness. They teach basic business practices, work on crop and livestock production, assist in organizing networks of farmers, and conduct production cost-and-price analyses.
Volunteers who have experience with livestock work to enhance farm families' nutrition and household income through improved livestock management techniques. Their activities include promoting vaccination against common diseases, teaching better production techniques, and assisting in range management.
