Peace Corps fetes UVM for Coverdell graduate program

Burlington Free Press, Burlington, Vermont

A 10-year partnership between the University of Vermont and the Peace Corps program gave cause for a brief celebration Wednesday afternoon in UVM's Morrill Hall, complete with free ice cream.

The occasion was the presentation of an award to UVM Provost David Rosowsky by Alice Barerra, a Peace Corps program specialist, honoring UVM's 10 years of participation in the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program.

The program offers financial assistance to returned Peace Corps volunteers pursuing graduate study. At UVM, 22 fellows have worked toward master's degrees in Community Development and Applied Economics or in Public Administration. As fellows, they get six credits for their Peace Corps service and perform community service at organizations such as the Intervale Center and Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program.
