Moldova: An International Adventure
Visalia Times-Delta, Visalia, California
Michele Figueroa joined the U.S. Marine Corps in the early 1980s to help people in any way she could, but also for the travel, excitement and adventure.
Next month, the Visalia-native is joining the Peace Corps for the same reasons.
“I had my application filled out and in the envelope in 1985, I just never mailed it. It was something in the back of my head for the last 30 years,” she said. “I knew I wanted to do the Peace Corps. How that came into my head, I don’t know.”
Figueroa, 51, has been selected as a Peace Corps Moldova invitee and if training is completed, will serve in the eastern European country for two years starting in July.
