77-year-old joins the Peace Corps

The following story originally aired on 9 News (NBC) in Denver, Colorado on April 7, 2011.

Normally when people hit their seventies they want to spend time with their grandchildren or perfect their golf game. Not 77-year-old Ellie Vaughter. She's joining the Peace Corps.

Ellie Vaughter leaves for Romania in a few weeks to be a volunteer with the Peace Corps as an English foreign language teacher.

Ellie says it's something she's always wanted to do.

One of the things I'm hoping this experience does is help me excite other people to go to the Peace Corps… or to work for Volunteers of America, to do anything that will still make them feel useful. To just wrap up life at 65 is just… I think it's sad, Ellie said.
