Applications for admission to GSSW are processed on a continuous basis until classes are full. When two-year and advanced standing MSW classes are full, applicants may be placed on a waiting list. Prospective students are encouraged to apply as early as possible for optimal consideration.

Program Start:

Two-year MSW students begin their programs of study in the fall quarter only. Advanced standing students begin in mid-July during summer quarter.

Benefits

All applicants to the MSW program are considered for merit scholarships, which range from $12,000 to full tuition per year for full-time students. Need-based awards are also available. Two incoming students selected for the Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program will receive an additional $5,000 scholarship. The MSW application fee is waived.

Description

The two-year MSW program consists of two quarters of foundation courses and four quarters of concentration courses. Foundation courses, taught in fall and winter quarters of the first year, prepare students for generalist practice. Students begin their concentration in spring quarter of the first year and continue their concentration throughout the second year.  The program comprises 90 hours of classroom (60 to 63 credit hours) and field instruction (27 to 30 hours). Thirty hours (18 classroom and 12 field) are waived for students admitted with advanced standing.

MSW concentrations are offered in Child Welfare; Children & Youth: Risks & Positive Development; Family Systems; Aging Services & Policy; Health & Wellness; Mental Health; Organizational Leadership & Policy Practice; and Sustainable Development & Global Practice.  Additionally, specialized certificates are offered in Animal-Assisted Social Work, Couples and Family Therapy, and Social Work with Latinos/as.

MSW students may take up to 10 credits in other University of Denver departments or schools, and dual or cooperative degrees are offered in international studies, law, theology or another field of the student’s choice.

The Master of Social Work program at the University of Denver is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation.
