The University of Alaska Fairbanks will provide a tuition waiver for Peace Corps Masters International students, so they maintain their active student status during their two-year Peace Corps assignment. In addition, up to six credit hours will be granted for Peace Corps service.
Description
The Master's program in Rural Development prepares students for effective and culturally-informed community development that recognizes regional, national, and global political economics influencing rural communities. Graduates of the Rural Development MA program are prepared as administrators, planners, community development specialists, managers and other leadership positions within tribal, corporate, business and public service agencies. Competencies anticipated following coursework completion include: refined leadership, community-based project management, human resource management, financial management, cultural/social impact analysis, public speaking, research, including computer and information technology proficiencies, multiple project coordination, networking, understanding of organizational and public process, interpersonal and intercultural communication.
Requirements
The prerequisites for acceptance into the program is a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Rural Development, Alaska Native Studies, Business Administration, Natural Resources Management, Political Science, Economics, Northern Studies or a related field, based on review and approval of program faculty, with at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average.
