Description

Peace Corps applicants who are passionate about social change through service have a home at Illinois State University's Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development.

Through coursework and Peace Corps service, students earn a master’s degree in Applied Economics, Political Science, or Sociology . Within each degree program, the Applied Community/Economic Development Sequence covers a range of topics, including project design and management, grant writing, and other subjects in administration and planning. Additionally, each student drives an individual research agenda in areas like sustainable development, food systems, microfinance, and housing.

•             Individual attention:  Illinois State University has the resources of a large university with the feel of a small school. The Stevenson Center is also small by design, with seminar-sized classes and strong faculty and staff support.

The kind of skills applied and level of responsibility during Peace Corps allow alumni to pursue development work both in the U.S. and overseas. Participants in the Sociology degree program also complete a required thesis under mentorship of the Sociology faculty on a topic of the student's choosing. Affiliated faculty and staff have expertise in a range of topics to support students' projects.
