Masters of Public Health students fulfill their field practicum requirement through the Peace Corps. The university grants a full tuition scholarship for this portion of the curriculum. MI students retain student status at the university during Peace Corps service. Federal student loans, work-study eligibility, grants and merit scholarships are available. Up to 12 credit hours can be earned for Peace Corps service.

All LLU students receive full, high quality, user-friendly, medical coverage, and dental coverage is offered at a very low cost. Competitive scholarships are available for students (through the Office of Financial Aid). Student housing is also available.

Description

Recent advances in science, technology, and communication have created a rapidly shrinking planet-a global village. The Peace Corps is a key player in this global village and has identified a shortage of prepared public health professionals to respond to the needs. To address this, Loma Linda University School of Public Health partners with the Peace Corps to offer the Masters International Program. The School prepares graduates who are technically competent and skilled in planning, implementing, and evaluating sustainable programs using an experiential model of learning compatible with Peace Corps goals.

Students spend 15-18 months on campus completing their coursework and then fulfill their field practicum requirement through the Peace Corps. After completing their Peace Corps service, students return to the US with a master's degree in public health; the ability to apply theory to practice, while living overseas; and the experiences to change the world. Students may choose to study from the Global Health department.

Requirements

Complete on-line application, 3.0 GPA, submit GRE scores, three references, personal statement, phone or face-to-face interview, co-requisite courses in addition to curriculum: one course in microbiology, one course in anatomy/physiology. Differs depending on program.
